The Tenby in Bloom contest has returned with a wealth of winners playing their part to help the town keep its famous reputation as the floral seaside resort of Wales.

The competition took a break last year due to the pandemic and Covid restrictions, but with the town gearing up for another busy season, householders, hotels, guest houses, public houses, restaurants and shops have pulled out all the stops once again for 2021, to make Tenby look blooming great.

The competition has resulted in very high standards of displays in recent years, and although there is a competitive element in that there are trophies awarded, everyone who enters has a certificate featuring their own floral displays and a silver, silver gilt or gold award.

Last Wednesday (July 7) Tenby in Bloom chair Clr. Mrs. Sue Lane, vice chair Clr. Mrs. Tish Rossiter and fellow judges Hugh Scale and Jason Rossiter, went on a walkabout to take in the floral delights on display.

“Our Tenby in Bloom competitors, both private individuals and businesses, are a real credit to the town - they work tirelessly year after year to provide us with spectacular results, and then allow our judges into their cherished gardens,” said Clr. Mrs. Lane.

“Thanks goes to everyone who entered, and although not as many as usual, there was still over 30 for us to judge. We have sadly lost several of our regular entrants over the last couple of years, but we hope that next year we can encourage some new entries.

“I’m sure since the lockdown started people have been working tirelessly on their gardens, so it would be lovely if they gave us the opportunity to admire their hard work,” she continued.

The Serendipity Holdings Rose Bowl, presented to the overall winner with highest points, went to Mr. and Mrs. Thornton of ‘Tara’ Narberth Road.

The awards will be presented on Wednesday, September 22 at 11 am at The Tenby House Hotel in Tudor Square.
