The winning Texas Scramble team of Mary Rowell, France Lain and Paula Morgan, with Mrs. Julie Jenkins, wife of Colin Jenkins, of JOP, who presented the trophy to the ladies' section.
Competitions in July continued to have large fields and as a result of fine weather some good scores were returned.
In the fourth Hill-Lowe Bogey of the season, Rita Collins made sure of a reduction in her handicap by returning a +6 card, while France Lain and Gillian Roberts played to their handicaps on +1.
France Lain continued to play well in the July LGU Medal which was combined with the WLGU Dragon brooch and returned a nett 70 (there are probably very few Swiss who are eligible to wear a Welsh dragon!). Anne Morris and Heather Morgan both returned nett 72.
Ann Marsden, a keen sailor as well as golfer, chose the RNLI for her captain's charity competition this year and decided on a Texas Scramble, in which nearly 50 members took part, with a draw for partners.
The winning team was Mary Rowell, France Lain (again!) and Paula Morgan with 65.6 nett. Ann Marsden, Betty Charnock and Senga Waddilove were just a stroke behind on 66.6 and Julia Sweet, Katie Morgan and Anne Dassun were third on 67.8.
The new trophy, a silver and cut glass claret jug, was presented to the section by Colin Jenkins, of JOP, and his generous and much appreciated sponsorship combined with the donations of the competitors resulted in the RNLI receiving £100.
Last week I expressed the hope that Ann Marsden would remember her Captain's Day as the highlight of her year, but this week she has perhaps topped that highlight, if that is possible, by recording her first hole in one at the ninth. What will she do next week?
