Tenby Golf Club's annual outing to Swansea took place last weekend. The first match on Saturday was against Langland Bay. Winning pairs for Tenby were M. Morris and P. Keating, S. Keating and S. Poole and G. Mckeown and T. Rogers. Halves were obtained by J. Morris and V. John and R. Schooling and J. Gillespie. This was a very creditable performance, losing by only six matches to four, as two were lost on the 18th green. The weather was dry, but a strong wind made scoring difficult; happily, though, waterproofs were not needed. The team enjoyed a very pleasant meal in the company of their hosts, before there was a quick return to the Dragon Hotel to enable some members of the party to enjoy the atmosphere of Swansea's Wind Street nightlife! The second match on Sunday was against Pennard. Their vice-captain is a Tenby boy, Jeff Joseph, who is also a country member of Tenby Golf Club. One player in the Pennard team has played in this match on no fewer than 44 occasions, which indicates how long this fixture has been going and how popular it is. The following pairs won their matches, J. Morris and V. John, R. Schooling and J. Gillespie, D. Sigsworth and L. Phillips, D. Blackmore and B. Frayne and G. McKeown and T. Rogers. Tenby won five-and-a-half to four-and-a-half, the result being a very rare occurrence - indeed, John Morris could not remember being a member of a winning Tenby team! Pennard, meanwhile, held a few discussion into why they had lost! After enjoying some liquid refreshment, everyone tucked in to a superb carvery meal, followed by bread and butter pudding. The wine also flowed to good effect, before the Tenby party eventually departed for home in time to see the final stages of The Masters.
