Back in August, Rachel Scourfield took part in Tenby's Captain's Day and qualified with the best nett to play in the second round of the PGA Junior Championship at Ashburnham.

Successful yet again with the best nett of 72, she made it to Celtic Manor.

This was the first time the PGA Junior Championship had been held at the famous course - the chance of a lifetime for a 10-year-old.

Friday was a practice round and then Saturday and Sunday the competition got underway. Nerves crept in on the Saturday, but Rachel held her own on the Sunday, equalling the lowest nett on the day and finishing sixth overall - an excellent achievement for someone so young.

Rachel was one of the youngest competitors and represented the future of junior golf. From a field of 18 girls, mainly 16-17 year olds, Rachel can hold her head up high.

The opportunity to play on the course where the Ryder Cup will be held is a great honour and the family were treated like royalty! An experience of a lifetime and congratulations on such an excellent achievement - no doubt we will be hearing more about this young talent in the future.

Golf Foundation lessons are well underway, with young golfers aiming to achieve red level 1 and 2 of the scheme. They need to show an understanding of the grip, stance, swing, as well as putting and chipping skills. One key element is playing as a team in competitions. By tomorrow (Saturday), nearly 45 children will have achieved the first part, and by the Christmas junior dinner, we hope that certificates will be presented to all the juniors who have participated.

The Tiger Woods team in the long game competition were just beaten by the Duval team, Greg Lees Griffiths, Toby Rossiter, Jazmine Pouton, Greg Palin, Lewis Butler and David Webb all being victorious. Elliot Scotcher, Jack Hawkey and Rhys Lewis also managed to score well for their team.

Hopefully, all these young golfers have worked on their grip and swing over half-term.

Alex Davies proved to be the chipper of the morning, scoring an excellent 150 points. Close behind were Leo Moreland and Shelby Rossiter. Keri Lewis, who has just started with us, did really well with the putting, as did Hugo Wellum, Joanna Rowe and Hannah Davies.

The second group of Golf Foundation is much smaller and have started the second level. Their challenge was to score at a greater distance.

For the likes of Sam Morgan and Jack Merrony, they consistently hit the ball straight and scored well. Daniel Young and Stephen Handicott attended for the first time, and did really well - showing a great potential for the future.

The overall winning team were Sam, Jessica Wellum and Daniel.

Lauren Keating, Charles Upham and Dai Worley were the three key players who stood out in Ian's group.

On Sunday, four youngsters ventured out to play on a beautiful day, with Greg Lees Griffiths coming in with the leading score.

This month's medal has been won by Richard Morton who made it round on a very wet and windy day!

Tomorrow (Saturday) we continue with Golf Foundation and on Sunday there's a stableford competition with some hidden holes!

I will be sorting the Haf Eclectic out after Sunday, so it'll be your last chance to try and improve those scores.
