TENBY LADIES 3 CARMARTHEN LADIES 0
Tenby did their best to regain their excellent form of last season against an improved Carmarthen team who battled throughout.
With a solid looking back four of Tracy Parks, Carrie Slack, Imelde Rossi and Hazel Sawyer, Denise Powell, in the Tenby goal, only had to deal with the occasional back pass in a first half where the home side needed to gain some confidence with their attacking play.
Sally James had plenty of ball possession in midfield, and only marred a good performance by being cautioned for dissent.
With a positive attitude to attacking play, Imelde Rossi put Tenby ahead after three minutes from the edge of the penalty area, before a long period of dominance when Tenby tried hard to increase their lead against a packed defence.
Carmarthen tried the odd attack, but Tenby caught them on the rebound several times and long crosses from Nicola Aston and Selina Morgan caused danger in the visitors' goalmouth, before a Sally James centre from the right was too good for the Carmarthen goalkeeper and flew into the roof of the net to put Tenby 2-0 in front.
Tenby always looked dangerous down their right flank where Tracy Parks, working well with Carrie Slack and promising newcomer Clare Dooley, gave Sally James and Cally Roberts plenty of passes to chase, before the industrious Selina Morgan put Tenby 3-0 in front after 24 minutes.
Sally James and Angharad Nicholls were dominant in the centre of the pitch, never letting Carmarthen have much of the ball, and Tenby went off at half-time with their three-goal advantage intact.
Tenby's chances of increasing their lead in the second half with the slope in their favour seemed better, and they gained numerous corners which Nicola Aston took menacingly from both sides of the pitch.
Several players came close to finding the net, and Selina Morgan brought the best out of the visiting goalkeeper with a stinging shot which was well held.
From yet another goalbound header, Sally James was unlucky to see her effort headed over the crossbar, and Tenby had to settle for a 3-0 win, which reflected an improved performance on last week, but took no credit away from the enthusiastic and well-organised Carmarthen team.

GIRLS FOOTBALL
Sunday saw the start of the Girls Under 12s and 14s indoor leagues being held weekly at Pembrokeshire Centre. Tenby fielded two Under 12s teams and another at Under 14 level.
With over 25 girls training each week, it was nice to play in match situations at last.
The Tenby Under 12s B team played first and started off with only four players, due to late arrivals! The four battled well, keeping it tight, and when help arrived it made a vast difference. Despite being 2-0 down against Neyland Athletic, the girls never gave up. Gracie Bevan, making her debut, scored first and then Holly Cloake equalised, before Bethan Roberts scored the winner in a nail-biting finish. Sophie Rees held the defence well and Becca Mearns played well in goal.
Their second game was a very close one against Saundersfoot, and this resulted in a 0-0 draw after some fast and furious football.
Tenby 12s A played Goodwick in their first game and ran out worthy 3-0 winners. Goals were scored by Danielle Jones, Nikki Furlong and Jenna Wright. Victoria Brace and Carly Brown also played well.
Their second match against Neyland Terriers was a one-sided affair, with Danielle scoring five goals, Nikki three, and Victoria and Jenna one apiece, with Charlene playing well in goal and Carly passing and tackling well.
The Tenby 14s played Saundersfoot and, with the teams now playing senior indoor rules, it was a lot more difficult to score.
Kaylie Davies opened the scoring with a good left-foot shot after the ball was crossed by Annie Davies. Lauren Wright scored their second against her former side. Liz Nicholas and Penny played well, with Rebecca Bevan swapping with Penny in the Tenby goal. Kelly Furling worked hard in defence and the final score was 2-0.
They also beat Goodwick 2-0 in their second game, with Lauren and Penny sharing goalkeeping duties. Kaylie scored first and then Liz increased Tenby's lead, giving them maximum points from their two games.
