Tenby U10s A 4 St. Clears 2
On a bright morning with a nip in the air, the Tenby A team had the early kick-off against a well organised St. Clears team. Tenby applied good pressure straight from the whistle, with a shot from Declan Escott just missing the target and soon after, good work in midfield saw Dylan Rees feed the ball neatly to Declan, who forced a good save from the St. Clears 'keeper. Tenby maintained their shape well with a solid defence of Tom Harries, Spencer Williams and Owen Coombs, very wary that St. Clears were quick on the break. Daniel Evans, in the Tenby goal, when called into action, did very well. Tom Dyson and Scott Ferney worked extremely hard in midfield, both having long range efforts just wide of the target, which kept up the pressure on the St. Clears goal. Adam Muskett came off the bench and made an immediate impact when, after a loose ball from a corner laid off by Tom Harries, his shot from the edge of the box was just tipped over the bar. Tenby again came close to a first goal, with Scott Ferney unleashing a long shot that was tipped onto the bar and scrambled away by the St. Clears defence. It was just before half-time when the breakthrough came. Good build-up from the back and interplay in midfield saw Declan Escott swivel and shoot low into the far corner of the goal, which was simply too good for the 'keeper to stop. So a slender one-goal advantage at the break gave the lads confidence. Unfortunately, St. Clears had other ideas and just after the break levelled the match with a goal after a good passing move. St. Clears were back in the game and chances came at both ends. Tenby applied more pressure, which led to two goals within a minute to complete a hat- trick for Declan Escott, who was now causing the St. Clears defence all sorts of problems. Tenby could sense the victory and passed the ball well. Tom Dyson bossed the midfield and Scott Ferney, with a good run down the right, forced a corner, which led to Declan Escott's fourth goal. St. Clears still attacked and an unstoppable shot into the top corner of the Tenby net was a consolation just before the final whistle. Thanks to Park Road Fish and Chips, the sponsors, Nicky Rees for refereeing the match and all supporters.
TENBY U12s 4 ST. CLEARS U12s 3 The Manorbier Stores and Post Office team emerged from the changing room after the pre-match talk looking relaxed, laughing and joking, followed by coach Simon who admitted to feeling nervous. After last week's loss and the imminent arrival of the St. Clears side, who had held high-flying Camrose to a draw, it was going to be an important game for the Tenby side. Would they bounce back or would Simon's nerves be justified? A different formation again and Tenby grabbed the initiative from the kick-off. Knocking the ball cleanly around the pitch, the first goal came quickly, Rhys finding Nathan near the goal and his shot finding the back of the net. Two disallowed goals followed, one each - only fair, and then the speedy St. Clears forwards found an opening and equalised. Tenby dominated again and the ever-alert Elliot pounced on his own rebounded shot to put the home side ahead at half-time. A great first half performance from each and every Tenby player, delight showing on their faces as they raced to the touchline for their drinks! The second half and the boys started in the same determined fashion. With both sides playing some skilful football, it was Tenby who had most of the possession and they capitalised by scoring a further two goals - both unstoppable and scored by Daniel and Elliot. Then, 4-1 up, Simon decided to share his nerves with the players and spectators and made a few changes. St. Clears seemed to sense they were back in the driving seat whilst the subs settled, and grabbed the initiative, scoring two breakaway goals. It was a really nail-biting finish and we were all relieved to hear the final whistle - a 4-3 victory which was thrilling to the end. Tenby, you can be proud of the way you played - gone were the demons of last week and instead it was a great demonstration of skill, team work and determination. Don't want to give too much away ahead of our cup match against Carew on Saturday, but you all gave 110 per cent and showed that you are capable of some superb, match-winning moves, brought about by a great all-round team performance. Fantastic! Special thanks this week to ref Colin who received a lot of 'friendly advice' from the touchline - he maintained his authority without losing his cool and in spite of one or two decisions (not Colin's) being a bit borderline, he made certain these worked to both teams' advantage. Usual gratitude to Simon for his time and all-round contribution, to our sponsors and supporters, but it's the players this week who deserve thanks and praise for bouncing back in such a determined fashion. Squad: Sam Butler, Adam Conbeer, D'Arcy Escott, Daniel Fairlie, Nathan Farmiloe, Elliot Goldsmith, Tom Grover, Cheyne Lloyd, George McBeth, Corey Morris, Jack Murphy, Rhys Nicholas, Toby Rossiter, Hugo Wellum. TENBY U10s B 0 CAREW 0
Tenby fielded an unchanged side as they played host to fellow rivals, Carew, at the Clickets ground. From the start, Tenby pushed forward and displayed some good organised attacking play, with Daniel Tiesing passing long out of defence and picking out Sean Conbeer in the Carew half, his fine long range effort just palmed wide by the Carew 'keeper. The corner was only partly cleared and the loose ball fell to Dylan Price. The striker played a fine lob over the 'keeper and was so unlucky to see his effort come off the underside of the crossbar and bounce off the goal-line. Tenby attacked again, with Luke Hartland displaying some great running on the right- handside to link up well with Joseph Criddle. Tenby showed some great flowing football, with Joel Downs passing out of defence and finding Joseph Criddle – starting a great team movement, which ended with Luke Hartland bringing a fine save out of the Carew 'keeper. Joel Downs put in a series of well-timed tackles to constantly disrupt the Carew attack and Daniel Tiesing displayed some fine supporting play on the right-handside. It was Tenby, though, who enjoyed long periods of possession. Henrik Jaakola delivered a great corner deep into the Carew area, picking out Liam Bowen, who fired his shot just inches wide. Carew pushed forward with a long goal-kick and were unlucky not to score, with a fine effort just going wide and Will Davies covering well to end the first-half. Ryan Kent was brought on in the second half and proved to be a real asset in the Tenby defence. A well-placed clearance from Will Davies found Luke Hartland on the right-handside and he passed to Liam Bowen, who was unlucky to see his shot go just wide. A great pass out of defence by Ryan Kent on to Sean Conbeer started yet another Tenby attack. Sean Conbeer drove forward, cutting through the midfield and passing to Joseph Criddle, whose pass was unlucky not to find Henrik Jaakola in space, but forced a throw-in deep in the Carew half. A long throw from Sean Conbeer found Joseph Criddle and he picked out Luke Hartland, who unleashed a fine individual effort which just passed over the Carew crossbar. Carew pushed forward on the break, but Henrik Jaakola put in a great well-timed defensive tackle, gathering the loose ball and passing up to the Tenby midfield. Dylan Price picked up the pass and produced a fine run down the right-handside, cutting inside the Carew defence, but his shot went just wide of the post. Tenby's defence of Daniel Tiesing, Henrik Jaakola and Ryan Kent displayed great understanding at the back and as the game progressed, ensured the midfield had plenty of options. Liam Bowen, Dylan Price and Sean Conbeer were all unlucky to see their efforts go just wide close to the final whistle, with the score remaining level at 0-0. Many thanks to Park Road Fish and Chips, the Tenby Under 10s kit sponsors, and to all the parents for their positive support and encouragement.
TENBY U11s 6 HUNDLETON U11s 0
Tenby U11s started off brightly on a bumpy Hundleton pitch. Despite a strong wind blowing, the boys strung passes together, which eventually resulted in Richard Tebbutt scoring the opening goal. Defender Nathan Wilson scored the second with a long shot that slid under the 'keeper's body. Tebbutt scored his second and Tenby's third after a good corner from James Bridges. Jerome Mansbridge worked hard up front and was well supported by Ellis Morgan and Ryan Price. Ryan Hill kept a clean sheet in goal and Jacob Dent and Robert Davies showed their class in defence. Luke Conbeer went in goal in the second half and had very little to do. Tebbutt scored his hat-trick with another fine header and Mansbridge beat several players to score Tenby's fifth goal. Brandon Taylor-Monaghan tackled well in midfield, while Lloyd Hughes scored Tenby's sixth goal after having a very good game on the left-handside. Tenby: Ryan Hill, Jacob Dent, James Bridges, Ryan Price, Lloyd Hughes, Richard Tebbutt, Jerome Mansbridge, Ellis Morgan, Luke Conbeer, Robert Davies, Brandon Taylor-Monaghan, Nathan Wilson.
TENBY U14s 4 GLYNNEATH TOWN U14s 1
The Willow Carpentry sponsored Tenby Under 14s marched into the second round of the Ray Nedin W. W. Junior Cup with this hard fought win over Glyneath Town. Tenby won the toss and elected to play with the wind in the first half. The opening 10 minutes was a close affair, with both weighing each other up. However, Tenby got their noses in front following a Jordan Richards corner. Curtis Hurlow flicked on the ball and the impressive Ashley Smith smacked it home from eight yards. This was no more then the home side deserved, as they started to take control of the game. They almost doubled their lead when centre forward, Will Thomas, firstly saw his header, from another Richards corner, crash against the woodwork, then agonisingly hit the rebound over the crossbar. Richards also went close when he hit a long throw by Thomas, on the half volley, over the bar. However, the second goal wasn't long in coming. captain, Curtis Hurlow picked up a loose ball in the centre of the park and made ground before hitting a low shot, from the edge of the box, into the right-hand corner of the goal. On the stroke of half-time, Smith grabbed his second with another accurate shot, following good interplay between Thomas, Alex Heesom and Phil Horsley. Tenby now had to play the second 35 minutes facing the wind and a Glynneath side all fired up to try and cut the deficit. Which they did after 10 minutes, when they converted following a goalmouth scramble. The visitors threw everything at the home defence, but Hurlow, Patrick Elliott, Greg Lees-Griffiths and Dan Edwards defended like Trojans and anything they missed, 'keeper Jake Roberts mopped up. At the other end, both Thomas and Gareth Warlow squandered good chances, before it was left to Smith to kill the game off. He took the ball to the bye-line and deceived everyone in thinking he was going to cross it, but cracked a shot just inside the near post, to complete a well-earned hat-trick. Tenby side: J. Roberts, G. Lees-Griffiths, C. Hurlow, P. Elliott, D. Edwards, A. Heesom, P. Horsley, J. Richards, A. Smith, W. Thomas, G. Warlow, R. Fairlie, A. Roberts, C. Millward, D. Farmiloe.
TENBY U8s 6 MONKTON U8s 0
Tenby were away to Monkton last Saturday and started the game as they meant to go on. Within the first few minutes, a brilliant pass from Daniel Wainwright gave Tom James the opening goal. The boys worked hard throughout the game and Tenby's defence of Jack Broadhurst, Cai Elms and Tom Murphy proved to be as tough as ever, tackling hard at all times, and with the ever-faithful James Harries in goal, they were always going to be watertight. A few chances were created by Toby Poole, but the second goal came again from Tom James. Elliot Moorhouse, Alex Brace and Ben Palin constantly battled hard throughout the game, never giving up for possession of the ball. A foul on Toby Poole gave Dan Wainwright a free- kick and he convincingly put it in the back of the net. Tom Murphy had a great run down the wing, with Toby Poole finishing it off by scoring his first goal. Toby then went on to score another two goals, which put Tenby 6-0 ahead at the final whistle. A great game by the young side. Thanks must go to the Monkton referee and for the food provided, to Matthew Broadhurst for being the coach and parents for making their way down. Team: Toby Poole, Tom Murphy, Tom James, Alex Brace, Jack Broadhurst, Elliot Moorhouse, Caie Elms, James Harries, Ben Palin, Dan Wainwright.
