Tenby U12s 2
Lamphey U12s 0
Tenby U12s tightened their grip on pole position in the Pembrokeshire League with a vital home win against Lamphey on the Saturday before Christmas.
With only 11 players available and one or two boys carrying injuries, Tenby had to work hard for their three points. But, after a closely fought opening, Tenby began to exert more pressure on the Lamphey goal, winning a couple of corners.
A brave save from the Lamphey 'keeper denied a Charlie Gammer volley at point-black range. Adam John and Owen Coombs also had long range efforts well held by the 'keeper, and Lloyd Hughes just skimmed the post with a low shot across the face of goal.
Lamphey then came back at the home side, but were thwarted by the confident pairing of Declan Escott and Sam Perrett in the centre of the Tenby defence, and robust tackling from Tom Harries and Adam Muskett.
Having soaked up Lamphey's attacks, Tenby looked dangerous on the break, with Spencer Williams and Scott Ferney creating chances with their runs from midfield.
And just before half-time, Charlie Gammer was put through on goal, and deservedly fired the Seasiders into the lead.
Lamphey continued to play good football in the second half and managed to create a few half chances. But Daniel Evans in the Tenby goal never really looked threatened.
Tenby cemented their advantage early in the second-half, when a neat pass from Owen Coombs released Charlie Gammer on the right edge of the area, and his curling cross was met with a deft header by Lloyd Hughes.
Scott Ferney then put the ball in the back of the net with a great low shot, but the goal was chalked off for an earlier offside.
Congratulations to Tenby, who finish the first half of the season at the top of the league. Thanks to match referee, Nicky Rees, and generous kit sponsors, Park Road Fish and Chip Shop. Last, but not least, a big thank you to Kev Ferney for all the hard work he has put in managing and training the boys throughout the year.
