Tenby U8s 7 Haverfordwest County 0

Tenby U8s got their season off to a great start with a 7-0 win at Haverfordwest County.

First half goals came from Lucas Probert with two and Joe Simmond one. Tom Wright came close, but unfortunately his effort hit the bar.

The second half was a little harder as Haverfordwest had three chances which were saved by Joe Evans, but Tenby soon bounced back with two quick goals from Rhys Morgan.

Tenby's midfielders, Alex Wainwright, Jay Brace and Elliot Whareitt, were excellent in both attack and defence, with Elliott also getting himself on the score sheet.

Defensive duo Lewis Waters and Ollie Brown were fairly quiet, with little to do in the latter part of the game.

Ollie Brown made a late break, beating the Haverfordwest defence and goalkeeper with a 10-yard shot.

Alex Wainwright was voted this week's man-of-the-match.

A thank you to all parents for their support, despite the weather, and a well done to the team - keep it up boys!

TENBY U16s 10 CLARBESTON ROAD U16s 0

Tenby Under 16s, sponsored by Willow Carpentry, won this game to keep ahead of the chasing pack at the top of the league. Played in constant rain, the match didn't produce much flowing football, but the objective was to win and Tenby did that and scored a hatful to keep their goal difference looking healthy.

What Clarbie lacked in skill, they certainly made up for in determination and prevented Tenby from scoring until the 23rd minute. A corner from the left was headed home by Jordan Richards. This was the little boost that the home side needed, after being frustrated for the first quarter of the game. Ashley Smith notched the second from close range and when Gareth Warlow's cross was misjudged by the Clarbie 'keeper, Ashley Andrews had the simplest nod in at the far post.

Goals came quite regularly by now and it was pleasing to see so many from set-pieces. Declan Carroll rose highest to head in another Andrews corner and goal scorer became provider when Carroll set up Smith for his second.

The second half saw Tenby make changes, with Chris Millward, Will Thomas and Leo Moreland replacing Andrews, Curtis Hurlow and Greg Lees-Griffiths, respectively. Moreland's first touch saw him hit a thunderous shot against the crossbar. Warlow got number six when the visiting 'keeper could only parry a Smith shot and Richards got his second when he was given too much space inside the Clarbie box. Another corner, this time from Richards, gave Carroll his second headed goal of the match.

By this time, the heavy pitch created a lot of tired legs and the pace of the game had slowed considerable. However, Jason Finnegan still had plenty of running in him and scored the final two goals with two good shots, although the last was more of a goalkeeping error.

Tenby side: J. Roberts, A. Roberts, C. Hurlow, G. Lees-Griffiths, D. Edwards, A. Andrews, J. Finnegan, J. Richards, D. Carroll, G. Warlow, A. Smith, W. Thomas, L. Moreland, C. Millward.

MONKTON U14s 5

TENBY U14s 2

In total contrast to last week's weather, the T. P. Hughes sponsored side travelled to Monkton with rain and a strong wind blowing. The elements were to play a large part throughout the game and the training tops, from Jameston Village Stores, were much appreciated.

The game started well for Tenby, with James scoring an absolute cracker, probably destined to be goal of the season (did you have your camera out Keith?) to give us an early lead.

But Monkton equalised with a penalty and then went one up.  Tenby put on the pressure and Joe grabbed their second before the end of the first half.

Not sure what happened in the second half, but Tenby's game fell apart. The weather and pitch prevented their usual smooth play and the ball was given away easily. Monkton capitalised on this and dominated throughout with some good play. Tenby could do little but spectate as Monkton scored a third, fourth and fifth. Tenby had a late flurry, Jack especially playing well, but the Monkton defence was impenetrable.

Although one or two decisions may have been a bit dubious, Monkton outplayed Tenby in most areas and deserved their hard fought victory.

Late afternoon, however, found the boys at the leisure centre enjoying Rhys's birthday bash - all smiles, but sporting bruised and battered limbs from an encounter which surely the atrocious conditions had affected to a great extent.

Thanks go to coach John, kit sponsors T. P. Hughes and Jameston Village Stores, Ted on the line, and the sodden touchline gang. No match, so far, this Saturday, so time to put this one behind us, regroup and get back to our best.

Squad: George McBeth, Cheyne Lloyd, Tom Grover, Jack Murphy, Sam Butler, Hugo Wellum, Joe Worley, Toby Rossiter, Rhys Nicholas, Elliot Goldsmith, James Adie, Nathan Farmiloe.

Tenby U12s 5 Clarbeston Road U12s 3

The U12s showed great fighting spirit in dismal conditions on Saturday, twice coming from behind against Clarbeston Road to maintain their unbeaten record and stay top of the league.

Lashing rain and a swirling wind made it hard for these two talented sides to display their normal slick passing, but there was still plenty to entertain the crowd in a game packed with panache and passion.

With home advantage, the Tenby boys had the balance of the early pressure, but with the wind on Clarbeston Road's side they were able to break quickly, knocking long passes deep into Tenby territory and giving the home side's back four their first real challenge of the season.

Wingbacks Tom Harries and Luke Hartland battled hard and passed well under pressure. And with Owen Coombs and Spencer Williams in the centre, the Clarbie strikers always found it difficult to make inroads down the middle.

But, slightly against the run of play, it was the visitors who opened the scoring when a beautifully delivered corner was met with a strong header.

Tenby then showed great determination to get back in the game, with Dylan Rees again superb in the centre of the park, and Lloyd Hughes and Adam John making gritty runs down the flanks.

The Seasiders deservedly equalised through Declan Escott. But they then conceded a second goal, when the ball was given away on the edge of the box, and a Clarbie striker lofted an unstoppable shot just beneath the bar.

Again Tenby came back, with great battling from Charlie Gammer setting up Declan Escott to make it 2-2.

Charlie Gammer then put a jubilant Tenby into the lead, winning the ball strongly before unleashing a great volley. But with the weather worsening and Clarbeston Road fighting hard, the game was by no means won.

Another great corner from the visitors was well headed away by Owen Coombs. The ball was fired back into the area, and after a scramble in the six-yard box, the ball finally ended up in the Tenby goal to take the score to 3-3.

With the wind now behind the home side, they went on the offensive again, with Adam John and Scott Ferney jinking their way through a tiring Clarbie defence.

Tenby deservedly regained the lead when Declan Escott sprang the offside trap, dipped his shoulder to off balance the Clarbie 'keeper, and calmly slotted the ball inside the near post.

Not to be outdown, Clarbie pushed for an equaliser, and a curling shot looked destined for the top right corner, before it was brilliantly palmed away by Daniel Evans in the Tenby goal.

As the game became more stretched, space opened up for Scott Ferney, who beat two defenders before being clipped from behind inside the 18-yard box. The challenge was more clumsy than cynical, but it was a definite penalty. And Declan Escott coolly stepped up to blast Tenby into an unassailable 5-3 lead.

In the last few minutes, Sam Perrett came on at left back, and looked very comfortable. And Jake Morgan and Adam Muskett also did well in the last few moments to keep the visitors at bay and keep Tenby top of the table.

Thanks to match referee Nicky Rees, and Park Road Fish and Chips, who have provided the U12s squad with tracksuits, training kits and a new team kit.

Tenby u13s 8 Goodwick u13s 0

A first half hat-trick by Jerome Mansbridge paved the way for another good win for Tenby in very rainy conditions.

The early pressure on the Goodwick defence made goals look likely, but Jerome took his chances well, especially the second which was scored from a very narrow angle.

Tenby looked especially safe at the back, where Shaun Whitfield marshalled the defence, with Jacob Dent, Robert Davies and Nathan Wilson keeping a firm line in front of the ever-safe Lewis Roberts.

Tenby's ability to contain a lively Goodwick attack meant that their own midfield of Elliott Rivers, Brandon Taylor-Monaghan, George Wilkins and Jimmy Bridges gave a good supply of passes for Mansbridge and Morgan Slate to run onto against a well-rehearsed offside trap.

Tenby's 3-0 half-time lead looked impressive enough, but even greater second half possession, inspired by George Wilkins and Nathan Wilson down the left flank, meant that the brave Goodwick goalkeeper had to deal with a succession of breakaways and crosses into the goalmouth.

Jimmy Bridges scored with a long range drive to make the score 4-0 and Shaun Whitfield followed this up from close range to make the score 5-0. Jerome Mansbridge worked tirelessly in going to look for the ball and creating more chances to score.

Jimmy Bridges was again on hand to make the score 6-0, and George Wilkins took aim and shot through a crowded penalty area to tuck a shot into the bottom of the net. Elliott Rivers's bursts of speed down the right caused panic in the Goodwick defence, helping his team-mates to take up dangerous positions in the visitors' goalmouth.

As the visiting goalkeeper made more good saves, and with the total collapse of the visitors' offside tactics, Jimmy Bridges completed the scoring to record a second half hat-trick, and an excellent 8-0 win for his team.

Goodwick's efforts to gain a consolation goal came to nothing when Lewis Roberts denied them at the foot of his right-hand post with a brilliant diving save, following a well-struck free-kick.

Brandon Taylor-Monaghan worked hard throughout and Ryan Price and Marcus Read got quickly into the game to complete a good all-round team performance.

Tenby squad: Lewis Roberts, Jacob Dent, Robert Davies, Shaun Whitfield, Nathan Wilson, Morgan Slate, Elliott Rivers, Brandon Taylor-Monaghan, George Wilkins, James Bridges, Ryan Price, Jerome Mansbridge, Marcus Read.

Tenby player-of-the-match was Jerome Mansbridge.

Thanks to Richard Bridges for refereeing.

CAREW U11s 0

TENBY U11s 13

The Andrew Price sponsored U11s played their first game of the new season and enjoyed a good win against local rivals Carew.

With the rain lashing down and the wind causing all sorts of problems for both sides, Tenby seemed to adapt quickly and enjoyed early possession. Carew defended well, but it was one-way traffic, and with Luke and Rhys going close and Jack, Malley and Billy running the game, goals were soon to be notched up. Natty kept his defence alert with his usual goal area blasts to keep Harry, Jordan and Ben on their toes.

The goals then came, with hat-tricks from Billy and Rhys and two apiece from Jack and Luke; Malley also got on the scoresheet with a well-finished effort.

Ben made way for Matthew, who fitted in well and enjoyed a great game with his hard work and commitment.

The defenders got in on the act, with Jordan scoring a cracking goal from 18 yards out and Harry tapping in after a defensive error to complete the scoring, but credit to a good Carew side who never gave up and played with pride until the final whistle and with excellent sportsmanship throughout the game.

So, well done both sides for playing good football in terrible weather and it was all well controlled by the man in the middle, Roger.

Team: Natty John, Ben Howells, Jordan Cornick, Harry Goforth (capt.), Billy Truman, Jack Parkinson, Malley Paxton, Matthew Webb, Luke Billing, Rhys Davis.

LAMPHEY U10s 0

What a cracking start to the U10s football season. Despite an early kick-off away at Lamphey, a skilful game of football was produced by the young, but confident Tenby team.

It was an amazing first half, with the boys in their positions playing an excellent game of football, controlling and passing well and allowing Tenby to dominate the game, with Toby Poole gaining a hat-trick within the first 15 minutes.

Strong midfield and defence by Elliott Moorhouse, Tom Murphy, Caie Elms and James Harris continued to push the ball forward into the Lamphey half, with a cracking goal by Danny Wainwright hitting the top corner of the net at great pace.

Tom Murphy saw a brilliant shot from the halfway line just go wide, but working together as a team, the boys continued to dominate the first half and some great crossing and passing subsequently resulted in another great goal by Danny just as the whistle blew for half-time.

The second half saw a couple of player changes; Jack Broadhurst changed goalkeeper position with James and Zac Steele came on for the remainder of the game.

Lamphey seemed to quicken their pace and tackled well, but the Tenby side had the edge on the ball. Jack, Elliott and Zac just wouldn't let the ball pass them and continued to push into the Lamphey half. Toby scored another goal and, soon after, a great goal by Ryan Conbeer hit the top corner of the net at amazing speed.

Some skilful crosses came from Ben Palin and another fantastic shot by Tom from the halfway line hit the bar.

A further two cracking goals by Ryan, after some great runs, gave him a hat-trick in the second half, while Zac Steele had a great game and scored within the final 10 minutes.

Toby also scored after a great run and a skilful cross from Danny, while Danny himself also gained a hat-trick in the second half by slotting in a goal towards the end of the game.

Just as the whistle blew for full-time, Tenby wrapped up the scoring with a great goal from Tom Murphy.

A great game of football, well played boys!

Team: James Harris, Jack Broadhurst, Caie Elms, Elliott Moorhouse, Toby Poole, Danny Wainwright, Ryan Conbeer, Ben Palin, Tom Murphy and Zac Steele.

Thanks go to coach Matt Broadhurst and to the parents for all their support.
