Tenby Under 13s football team took part in the prestigious Ian Rush Trophy academy tournament in Aberystwyth recently. Tenby were one of only two non-academy teams playing in the tournament and they certainly did the town proud with their exceptional performance in this high standard competition. The team faced two Welsh academy teams, Bangor City and TNS from Mid Wales, along with six others, including those from Canada, the USA and Ireland. Tenby won two games, drew three and lost three of these extremely difficult academy matches. In total, they played eight one-hour long games, and with 140 matches being played per day the Tenby boys also got to enjoy themselves as spectators. Team manager, Charles Davies, commented: "I am very proud of the boys, they all played really well. "The atmosphere at the event was outstanding and it was a great privilege to be able to play on the same grounds that were once graced by the likes of Stephen Gerard, Michael Owen and Andriy Shevchenko. "On behalf of the team, I would also like to thank all of our sponsors, without whom we would not have been able to enter this exciting event, Steve Sharma, Guy Thomas Estate Agents, Mars Ice Cream, Tony Upham Financial Services, Wades Electrical, Broughton Caravans, Jewson, Rob Howley, Gareth and Karen Thomas, Reebok and Texaco Oil Refinery." Congratulations go to the Tenby team and it is hoped they will be able to represent the town again next year.
