Sir,

I was disappointed to read in the Tenby Observer last week that Tesco had purchased the old Woolworths premises and were contemplating building a superstore at the Red House site, employing 200 people. I am not against fair competition and indeed welcome it.

However, we must not lose sight of Tesco's big brother record. They have already destroyed many farmers in the area and please remember every job lost on the farm means three to five jobs in the service industry, and these are fulltime jobs all the year round.

As to the claim that they will create 200 jobs, I can only add that we have heard this several times before in other areas.

Many of the jobs created will be part-time jobs and destroy many of the small and medium-sized businesses in the area and most will be private businesses that have serviced Tenby for many years.

Is this all worth it to have an extra penny of the jam? Tenby please be warned.

Sir Eric Howells CBE,

Meadow View,

Llandewi Velfrey,

Narberth.
