On the first Friday of October, 31 members and friends set off by coach to London on the first weekend away that Tenby Arts Club has undertaken for six years. The main focus of the trip was two walks, guided by John Beynon, curator of Tenby Museum and Art Gallery. The Saturday walk took the party from St. Paul's over the Millennium Bridge, past the Globe Theatre to Southwark Cathedral and Borough Market, then on to Tower Bridge, looking at the historical buildings and learning of their uses in the modern world. On Sunday morning, a walk through the City of London showed a number of buildings, burned in the Great Fire of 1666, rebuilt by Christopher Wren, bombed in the Second World War and rebuilt for a second time. The combination of old and modern buildings was fascinating. Members of the group are most grateful to John Beynon for all the hard work and preparation in providing these interesting and thoroughly enjoyable excursions. On Saturday afternoon, members enjoyed a trip on the London Eye, and in the evening some went to the opera at Covent Garden, while others crossed the river to hear the London Philharmonic Orchestra at the Festival Hall. On Sunday, a group enjoyed the Augustus and Gwen John Exhibition at the Tate Gallery, while others met friends and family. The trip concluded on Monday morning with shopping in Windsor. Everyone enjoyed the trip immensely and were eager to know when the next one would take place.
