It was nice to have Derek Shaw and Geoff White back for the second meeting in April. There was a good turnout of members for the morning and socialising went on apace.
The president welcomed everyone in his usual ebullient manner and soon got the show on the road.
Arthur Squibbs gave a report on the forthcoming visit to the Peak District and said that he had had a few people withdraw owing to ill health. So once again there are spaces available on the Diamond coach leaving on June 4. If you would like some more information on this trip, ring Arthur on 01834 843694.
The next Probus event will be Ladies Day on Wednesday, April 29, where there will be a slide talk on the Antarctic followed by a wine and cheese buffet.
Speaker for the morning was Ray Poole who spent the first four minutes describing some gruesome operation on the lower regions and then informed everyone that that wasn't what he was going to talk about.
Putting on a German Air Force forage cap, which he had acquired at a German flea market for one euro, he then started to speak about jet engines, the overheating of the turbo blades and similar problems. Probably most of those present in the room began to have second thoughts about flying ever again!
The talk was strewn with technical language and when he finished he said he would not say any more because it got too complicated.
Ron said that from the time he put his Air Force hat on, he lost them, but he improved their knowledge?
The next club meeting will be on May 6 when the speaker will be that 'down to earth' man Tony Webster. Contact Lew Day on 01834 844633 for any further information.
