The second meeting in January is always a double header, with the AGM following close upon the heels of a normal meeting. Last week was no exception, so the first meeting was hurried through and with only one anniversary boy, Ray Poole, and no speaker for the morning, members soon arrived at the AGM. The retiring president, Tony Webster, spoke of his year in office and gave a list of the 10-minute speakers and their subjects for 2007. He remarked on the wide range of subjects chosen by the speakers. He then handed over his chain of office to his successor, Arthur Squibbs, who is to be president for 2008. This is Arthur's second time in the chair, so he brings bags of experience to the office. Vice- president for this year is Peter Durdin. The officers are to remain the same as last year, but Ron Hurlow and Darrel John were also added to form the committee. Following, the accepting of the accounts, it was agreed that the subscriptions remain the same at £5 per year. The next get-together will be the Ladies Day on January 30 and the next club meeting will be on February 6, when speaker will be Peter Durdin. Some people are still uncertain of what the Probus Club is and what are the aims. The name comes from PROfessional and BUSiness men and is for retired or semi-retired men. It is a meeting together of like-minded men who can meet twice a month, at Tenby Bowling Club, for a morning coffee, or something stronger, and put the world to rights.
