Friday, June 5: Members had the pleasure of playing in a worldwide bridge contest, a rarity for a Friday evening, rubbing shoulders with fellow players from 41 countries. There were 5,037 pairs participating from 286 clubs.

The winning pair were Harvey Schwartz and Paul Kirby with 73.76 per cent from the Manhattan Bridge Club, USA. The Tenby and District club were more than pleased to see regular players, Catherine and Anthony Stevens, with 68.57, achieve a magnificent 27th in the world!

Another remarkable feature of the evening was the turnout; 16 pairs made the effort, as encouraged by director Kevin Thomas and secretary Irene Delahunty.

Results in the club, with worldwide positions in brackets, were: 1. Catherine and Anthony Stevens 69.51 (27); 2. Marnie Owens and Coral Jones 60.16 (519); 3.
