Tuesday, July 24, was the selected date for the slightly delayed, (for family reasons), celebratory 90th birthday party laid on for Marjorie Wilkinson by her friends in the Duplicate and Rubber Bridge Clubs in the Tenby area. Held at the Kilgetty Community Centre, there was an excellent turnout of both memberships, and Marjorie was given a right royal reception. Marjorie seemed a little surprised - she thought it was a charity bridge afternoon, but very pleased. Marjorie has been actively playing bridge in the area for 40 years and has been an inspiration to most of the current players. Six rounds of individual bridge were played, organised by the director Kevin Thomas and a rather swank tea followed, produced by members. The final act of a lovely afternoon was Marjorie formally thanking everyone for their collective kindness after blowing out the candle on her birthday cake, courtesy of Sue Batten. Top player of the session was lucky John Hodgeon. Special thanks to Sheridan and Bernard official 'Minders' and all those producing the edible goodies which Judy and Tina organised. Wednesday, July 25: A seven table Mitchell movement, North/South: 1. Wally Heaton and Gareth Jones 66.96 per cent; 2. Doug Silcox and Ray Bowen 53.57; 3. John Hodgeon and Huw Oliver 53.27; 4. Liz Crockford and Kevin Thomas 51.49. East/West: 1. Jill and John O'Sullivan 60.71; 2. Carmel Wiseman and Graham Hadlow 55.65; 3. Sheridan Bradley and Margaret Day 52.89; 4. Cindy Middleton and Judy Lewis 49.70. Friday, July 27, saw another well-attended night of competitive bridge. Results: 1. Kevin Thomas and Doug Silcox 61.98; equal 2. Pam Evans and Mike Taylor with Mary and John Hodgeon 59.90; 4. Sheridan Bradley and Cindy Middleton 56.02. Duplicate bridge is played twice weekly at the Kilgetty Community Centre, Wednesday 7 pm and Friday 6.30 pm. Visitors and new members are always welcome. For partners, ring Tina on (01834) 844586. The summer barbecue is at Trefloyne Golf Clubhouse this Sunday, 12.30 for 1 pm - pray for fine weather.
