At St. Florence Village Hall last week, the speaker at Tenby and District Camera Club was Allen Lloyd ARPS AWPF. His specialities are landscape and wildlife photography, and he had prepared several presentations, showing his skills.
He began with a series of images taken in Yellowstone National Park in North America in winter. He had visited the National Park in January, when it is buried deep in snow. He showed some wonderful pictures of the wildlife and scenery in the National Park which he set to music.
The next section was a landscape one, with images taken either early in the morning, or towards evening in the Brecon Beacons. Everyone was delighted with his breathtaking photography.
After a break for refreshments, members visited the Galapagos Islands, and enjoyed images of the fantastic wildlife there.
From his floating accommodation, Mr. Lloyd had spent eight days in this unique location. With wonderful images of iguanas, Sally-footed crabs, flamingos, Galapagos turtles, giant tortoises and many birds, all of which are unique to the islands, the club was taken on a journey of epic proportions.
The travellers on the trip had to trek through the islands in temperatures of over 100 degrees during the day.
So they had to have breakfast at 5.20 am to be in time for the best light and the coolest part of the day, for their photography.
After that, Mr. Lloyd showed the most touching images of breeding pairs of Albatross on the Falkland Islands. These delightful birds conduct the most gentle courtship. They pair for life and live to be 45 to 50-years-old. The birds of the Falkland Islands are very tame, with no fear of humans, of whom they see very little.
The next section was landscapes taken in and around Mr. Lloyd's home area of Monmouthshire, up and down the beautiful Wye Valley, and to finish, members were treated to a very comic presentation of penguins on the Falkland Islands.
Everyone enjoyed the fantastic photography of these wonderful places.
The next meeting will be on October 8, with the judging of the first open competition, with judge, Jennifer Cox BA (Hons) ABIPP ARPS.
