At St. Florence Village Hall last week, an illustrated talk was given by Chris Warren on composition.

Chris had put a lot of preparation into his presentation and with a lot of audience participation, showed many shots with faults which members had to discover.

Everyone was delighted as he then built up the final picture with a series of photos which improved with each one until a final acceptable image was achieved.

After a break for refreshments, he then explored further into the subject with examples of exposure used incorrectly, and how to improve that, and different aspects of landscape photography at different times of day. He also showed how using a polarising filter could improve an image and explored the use of other types of filter.

He had enlisted the help of family members to show how a photograph can be improved by putting the subject at her ease, positioning her comfortably, and using the light available to the best advantage.

Everyone felt that the evening had been a great success and the ideas put forward would be a great help to improving the quality of members' photographs.

Next week's meeting will be a mini-competition on summer photos taken during the club's summer outings: one image per person on a CD. This will be followed by a workshop on filing and storage.
