Guest speaker last Friday evening was the fine art photographer, Chris Tancock, whose work is known worldwide. It has appeared in many of the quality magazines, at the British Museum, and in a number of exhibitions throughout the world.

Chris explained how he constantly strives for simplicity in his work. As a photographer he is an editor who dispenses with detail and leaves the beholder of his pictures to use his/her imagination.

Background is important, but it does not need to be cluttered with detail. To illustrate his point, he compared the worked of Degas with some of his own work.

As a photographer he uses shape, form and light in a similar way to that of a painter. Members saw examples from the way Caravaggio used light to enhance his paintings. Atmosphere, moisture and texture also play an essential part in photographs. These were illustrated again with Chris's own work and that of others.

The photography throughout this fascinating talk was remarkable. This together with Chris's enthusiasm and love for his work held the audience spell bound.

At the conclusion, the vice-chairman, Pauline Allen, thanked Chris Tancock for giving such an excellent evening.

This Friday, Pauline Allen and friends will take the club back to events of the past in Tenby.

All are welcome to Church House at 8 pm. Admission is £1 members, £2 non-members. Light refreshments afterwards.
