A brief report this week which wraps up the summer dinghy matches and looks forward to some highlights during the autumn.

September 12, dinghy match: 'Lukris' and 'Serenity II' left the Mayor's Slip for the last time this year in their quest to be crowned top boat. An almost identical forecast to the last match promised a bit of a lumpy trip for the intrepid crews and so it proved. Nine species were recorded by the competitors and at the end of a keenly fought series, both boats ended up with 14 species each and therefore share the Dai King Shield. 'Lukris' just managed to squeak the Andrews Taylor Boat Points Trophy by four points, just reward for consistently fishing every match from April onwards.

The next match is a beach match on the South Beach (for a change), on Sunday, September 26. This is nice and civilised, fishing from 2 to 6 pm, so bring your Golden Grey mullet tackle along for a laugh, but also be aware of the Wales Marathon taking place on the same day.

After that, there's a Mid Week Match on September 29, with booking-in at the multi-storey car park and fishing from 7 to 11 pm.

It was then intended to have the annual jolly to fish with friends on Clevedon Pier on October 3. However, it has now been realised that this clashes with a rather large sporting event at the Celtic Manor in Newport (a pastime almost as silly as fishing!) and as a result, the match has been postponed to October 31. This means that the trip to Clevedon will now replace the scheduled match at Ginst Point. All anglers wishing to make the trip should let a committee member or Nev know so that they can co-ordinate travel arrangements.

The committee has also finalised the details for this year's Open Festival to be held on October 24 between 11.30 am and 4.30 pm, perhaps the largest single fishing event in South West Wales. Pre-booking for the event is kindly now available with local tackle shops, Tenby Angling, Cosheston Terminal Tackle (Cosheston and Saundersfoot), West Wales Angling (Pembroke Dock) and Angler's Corner, (Milford Haven). Full details, in addition to the renowned £1,000 first prize, can be found on the Tenby and District Angling Club and World Sea Fishing web-sites.
