Using postcards and posters from the museum's collections, including certain choice messages taken from the backs of cards, the exhibition illustrates the variety of seaside entertainments that have been available at Tenby, from donkey rides to boat trips and fishing competitions. The exhibition also provides information on the history of the postcard through a fictional communication, via postcard, between keen amateur deltiologists 'Gertie' and 'Ethel'.
Children's worksheets are available, allowing visiting children to create their own advertising poster for the town and to write their own postcard detailing their seaside adventures in Tenby. The finished products will be displayed in the Children's Art Gallery area at the museum.
Other displays for the museum's 125th anniversary year include 'Original Accessions' featuring a selection of objects and documents acquired by the museum in the year of its foundation and Tenby business advertisements from 1878.
'Tenby - A Seaside Holiday' runs until December 2003. The museum is open daily from 10 am to 5 pm (last admission 4.30pm).
