Support needed for safer walking and cycling route between St Florence and Tenby

A local county councillor is urging people to help support a safer walking and cycling route between neighbouring St Florence and Tenby.

Cllr Rhys Jordan who represents the ward of St Florence (as well as St Mary Out Liberty - better known as New Hedges) believes such an Active Travel Scheme (currently being touted by Pembrokeshire County Council) would hugely benefit the locality.

Pembrokeshire County Council is currently updating its Active Travel Network Map, which identifies existing and future routes for active travel. Under the Active Travel (Wales) Act 2013, local authorities must regularly review and improve opportunities for walking, wheeling and cycling.

Following a 12-week statutory consultation that concluded in April 2026, the Council is now carrying out a second consultation phase to give the public an opportunity to confirm that their views have been properly considered.

Cllr Jordan states that this link could make a huge difference by:

• Giving residents a safer way to travel between St Florence and Tenby.

• Allowing young people to walk or cycle to school more safely.

• Helping families and visitors access fantastic local attractions without needing to drive.

• Encouraging healthier, greener travel while reducing traffic on our busy roads.

“Whether you’re a resident, parent, cyclist, walker, or local business owner, your support could help show there’s real demand for this improvement,” explained Cllr Jordan.

“Active Travel plans are shaped by public feedback, so every comment counts.

“Please take a couple of minutes to visit the survey, support this route, and leave a comment explaining why you think it’s important - so we can get as many voices heard as possible.

“I’ve highlighted the stretch of road on the map below that I believe should be considered for a dedicated walking and cycling route.”

St Florence is home to many popular attractions including Manor Wildlife Park and Heatherton World of Activities, with the Dinosaur park also nearby in Gumfreston.
