A world famous electric supercar, capable of 0-60 in less than three seconds, is to make its debut at Pembrokeshire’s biggest-ever electric car test drive event.
Silverstone Green Energy in Narberth is handing over the keys for people to try out a range of cars from the nation’s favourites, the Nissan Leaf and Renault Zoë, to the futuristic hatchback BMW i3 and best-seller SUV, the Mitsubishi Outlander at the event this weekend, September 5 and 6.
While Silverstone GE, a leading solar PV installation company that also maintains more than 10 per cent of the nation’s massive solar farms, wants the public to see how good EVs have become, it is also laying on an exhibition of other low carbon technologies to demonstrate that they are now the right choice for everyday life.
“Whether it’s warming your home, powering your lights or driving you to town to get the groceries, low carbon technology is now so good that it has become the choice not just of the heart, but also of the head,” said William Silverstone, managing director of the company. “Some industry pundits estimate that by 2018 no fossil fuel only cars will be sold new. That is just three years away and the speed with which the big companies like BMW, Nissan and Toyota are moving ahead shows hybrid or wholly electric cars have well and truly arrived and are here to stay,” he added.
“We want people to come here to try the cars, to talk to our highly expert team, ask them questions - challenge them even - and learn about how this industry is bringing on a revolution in our energy supply. It’s a very exciting time!” said William.
The event runs tomorrow (Saturday) and Sunday at the Rushacre Enterprise Park between 10 am and 4 pm and anyone wishing to drive one of the cars should turn up in good time to get their name down on the list. Some of the cars are going to be very popular.
