A shared supper, a talk about off-grid living and a festive evening of Welsh dancing will bring people together across Pembrokeshire this autumn, while raising funds for Nant-y-Cwm Steiner School.

The school, based in Llanycefn near Clynderwen, is inviting the wider community to enjoy a programme of events celebrating good food, fresh ideas and live music. All proceeds will support its work with children and families.

An independent Steiner-Waldorf school, Nant-y-Cwm aims to help children flourish academically, socially and emotionally. Its approach combines intellectual learning with creativity and practical activity, encouraging pupils to think independently, develop confidence and contribute to the world around them.

The school describes this as educating the “head, heart and hands”. Alongside academic development, it values kindness, self-awareness and learning through doing. Small classes allow teachers to get to know each child, while a phone-free environment supports its commitment to protecting childhood and nurturing positive relationships.

Its provision includes a family group for children aged up to three, Kindergarten for ages three to six and Main School for ages six to 14. It has also announced plans for an Upper School for ages 14 to 16, combining a Waldorf curriculum with core GCSE subjects.

The programme begins with Gathering Around the Table, a French and Mediterranean buffet prepared by Swiss-French chef Anne-Valerie Cauteruccio. Taking place at the Penquoit Centre, a 17th-century Welsh longhouse, on Saturday, November 7 from 6pm to 10pm, the evening offers an opportunity to meet new people over a homemade meal.

Also in November, Marcus Beck will share the story of the Big Wood Cabin, its appearance on Grand Designs and his first year living off-grid under Wales’s One Planet Development scheme. His talk at Nant-y-Cwm will explore practical lessons, unexpected challenges and how storytelling can help unfamiliar ideas connect with a wider audience.

The season continues with a Festive Twmpath featuring the school’s own band, Off the Cliff, at Maenclochog Community Hall on Friday, December 4, from 7pm to 10pm. Both experienced dancers and those trying a Twmpath for the first time are welcome.

Mike Hargreaves, a trustee of Nant-y-Cwm Steiner School, said: “Our mission is to give children the foundations for a fulfilling life: a love of learning, confidence in themselves and the ability to think independently, work with others and find their own path.

“A supportive community is central to that ambition. These evenings give us a chance to extend that welcome beyond the school gates, bringing people together while supporting the education we offer.

“Whether you come for the food, the conversation or the dancing, we hope you will leave feeling part of something special.”
