Yet again, the September meeting of the South Wales Autograss League was blessed with glorious sunshine, and along with the sunshine came 129 keen grassers, among them some new junior drivers having some practice before starting a full racing season in 2006.
Before going into the race results, the league would like to congratulate everyone who travelled to the Men's Nationals in the Yorkshire Dales and also those who represented the league in the Ladies/ Juniors Nationals in East Anglia.
Congratulations to Phil Rogers for winning Class 8, and as well as being runner-up in the Champion of Champions, PHD137 Norman Mason for second in class 7 and to PHD1 Steve Lindsey for second in Class 9. At the Ladies and Juniors Nationals, PHD137 Hiefena James was second in Class 7, S10 Jenny Lewis fourth in Class 2, and CM1 Tom Harris third in the Juniors. This will be Tom's last year in the Juniors as he moves into Class 6 next year.
With nearly all the classes being very well represented, there was a lot of racing to get through. There were many league cars racing who have only raced a few local meetings throughout the year, and there were some out for the first time, which was nice to see. The Juniors, as always, were very well represented, with three racing for the first time.
The eventual winner of the A final was TA32 Alun Jenkins, who is also in his last year in the Juniors and who will be moving into Class 1 next year, but chasing him throughout the race was TA70 Owen Marks, who will also be moving to Class 6 next year.
The B final was won by TA45 Steffan Davies, followed closely by TA18 Angharad Evans, who seems to have fully recovered from her rollover at the Junior Nationals, with PHD75 Richard Paynter in third, who was having his first race meeting.
It's good to see all these new juniors emerging, making sure that there will be plenty of future racers to replace the juniors moving up to the adult classes next year.
