The traditional medal awarded to brave entrants in Tenby's Boxing Day Swim has splashed out into a new design era, thanks to the town's Greenhill School. Year 12 AS level Product Design students have come up with the idea of a striking new bright blue medal as part of their coursework. The medals have now gone into production in readiness for this year's dip - thanks to Dylan Bendall, of Narberth-based company WyCraft Badges, who is heavily sponsoring their manufacture. "It's been a good test of students' computer artwork skills, and we have agreed a design which is both appropriate and economic," said Greenhill's technology head, Graham Morris, who is a member of swim organisers, the Tenby Sea Swimming Association. This will be the first time in the swim's 34-year history that the bravery medal has not been made from metal. The new design is laser cut from laminated acrylic material. Said TSSA chairman Chris Osborne: "It's a bold, modern move and we're sure all the swimmers will be delighted." Tenby's Boxing Day bathers will take the plunge off the North Beach at 11.30 am on Sunday, December 26. This year, money is being raised for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust, the Harriet Davis Trust, Macmillan Cancer Relief and Diabetes UK.
