Tenby entertained Laugharne on a lovely sunny Friday evening, in a game which was won by the visitors 12-5. Laugharne opened the scoring with a try by former United favourite Steven Hartland after good work from their forwards. Tenby battled back with a good try from the game's outstanding player, Harry Bolton. Laugharne's second try caught the Tenby players on the hop, with the prop crashing over without a hand being laid on him. The game was played by both sides with good intentions, but as both sets of players were rusty, it was littered with mistakes, with Tenby too often losing the ball in contact, handling the ball on the floor, and indiscipline entering the ruck. The Tenby coaches will most certainly be looking to address these issues in training this week and put things right before the next match. However, on a positive note, there were excellent performances from last season's youth players Alex Watt and Harry Bolton. Tenby dominated the lineouts through Chris James and Gareth Edwards, both 20 years of age, with Neil Powling also having a good game behind the scrum. During the next few weeks, the squad will be bolstered by the return of Paul Luger, Neil Truman, Nicky Allen, Scott Payne, Mark Badham, Gavin Brace, Rob James and Gene Hocking, who all missed the game. Tenby, this season, have lost the services of Sion Brace and Andrew Dennis, who have both joined Narberth, and all the boys wish them all the best. Tenby's new recruits this season are second rows Paul Broadhurst, New Zealander Wayne Macmillan, back rowers John Stephens (a Welsh rugby league cap), and Harry Bolton, who was on dual registration with Carmarthen Quins last year. The coaching staff and management are also talking to two players and are hoping these will be available in the next two weeks. Thanks go to Des Brace, who on the night single-handedly manned the gate, did the raffle, put the flags out and also made sure the boys parked their cars tidily! Well done Des.
