The Tenby Steps2Health group has grown to such proportions that it looked doubtful that the long queue of walkers would all be accommodated on the bus that was conveying them to New Hedges, the starting point for Saturday's walk (writes B.S.). More walkers were already waiting at New Hedges, bringing the grand total to 39. With only two walks leaders, Barbara Morris and Lyn Evans, being present, it was not deemed possible to split into two groups giving the option of returning to Tenby by way of the longer route via Waterwynch. However, the route of the old road by way of Bryn Hir and Slippery Back rewarded the walkers with a taste of spring in January. Clumps of snowdrops decked out the ancient hedgerow in a springtime dress. Just as delightful was the carpet of purple crocus in the garden of the dental surgery. Coffee or tea and plates of biscuits were another welcoming sight as we turned into The Albany Hotel to be greeted by one of the proprietors, Janet Slate who, with husband Brian, son Richard and his wife Lisa, are in their first year of running the hotel, where we were able to chat and relax in comfort. Tomorrow (Saturday), the Tenby group will meet up with the Pembroke Dock walkers for a Pembroke town walk. Meet at Castle car park (by Royal George) for an 11 am start. To enquire if there are any vacant seats on the minibus, which leaves from outside Somerfield at 10.30, ring Val Coates-Rees on 843951.
