May blossom crowned the hawthorn trees and made a shady canopy above the deep-set narrow lane which ran between banks of bluebells and pink campion. The Steps2Health walkers could hardly have trodden a lovelier path for a Maytime walk (writes B.S.). It was a sharp contrast to the main road out of town along which we had travelled by bus to New Hedges, from where volunteer trained walk leaders Barbara Morris and Margaret Lewis took us on what might be described as a nostalgic country walk along the old lanes which would still be recognisable to the folk who would have used them regularly as their route to Tenby town many years ago. All too soon, it seemed, we were back in the busy bank holiday streets but, nevertheless, eager to join the well supported coffee morning at Church House in aid of the Royal Air Force Association. Do please take note that we have an earlier start tomorrow (Saturday). It is planned to catch the Silcox bus leaving Somerfield at 10 am. As the walk starts from Wiseman's Bridge, drivers may prefer to go direct and park in the free car park there. Hopefully, the bluebells will still be in bloom, as they are a magical sight at the start of the 'Miner's Walk' which will take us up to Stepaside Heritage Centre. It will be back to Wiseman's Bridge Inn for coffee and then along the cliff path through the tunnels to Saundersfoot and a return to Tenby by bus. Do wear appropriate footwear for your own comfort and safety. Everyone is welcome to join what promises to be a walk that takes in coastal scenery, woodland beauty and whispers of a bygone industrial past.
