Last Thursday, seven Nordic Walkers made the journey to Cilgerran for their weekly outing. It was a very scenic walk on a delightful, unseasonably warm and sunny day.
Starting from the Coracle Centre in Cilgerran, they followed the beautiful riverside path through the Teifi Gorge. Turning off the path at Fforest farm, they had a lunch break at the old quarry. Returning via a lane, they diverted into the mighty Cilgerran Castle where they met some giant reminders of olden days. Everyone who was there said that it was a great walk and well worth the journey.
On Saturday the weather was still very mild but grey and overcast. This was their second outing with ‘Maggie’, the marvellous new PVT bus; this time with a new minibus driver at the wheel: Kym.
With those who travelled independently, a total of 31 members met at Amroth village car park. After the usual preliminaries, they split into two groups. Barbara and Chris led the Speedies up the long hill into Colby Lodge Gardens. Donna and Marlene led the Steadies towards the sea front for a completely flat walk to New Inn and back.
When the Speedies reached the top of the gardens, they went up the hill, through the car park, to cross over to the Craig y Borion Woods. They were very warm indeed by the time they reached the top. When they returned down the hill and crossed back to the gardens, they were ready for a pit stop.
As they sat outside the Bothy Cafe sampling the wonderful cakes, they were joined by a few of the Steadies. Having finished their own walk, some of them couldn’t resist the attraction of Penny’s cakes and walked up the hill to sample them.
Eventually, everyone regrouped at Amroth car park for the journey home. People were heard to say what a lovely outing it had been.
Note: PVT’s minibuses are available for hire by community groups, at very favourable rates.
Tomorrow, Saturday, there will be a choice of two town walks, starting from Battery Gardens at 10.30 am.
