Sir, I write with reference the front page article 'Station still an eyesore' in the Tenby Observer last Friday and the comments made by Mr. Redman. I agree that the Tenby Railway Station has deteriorated in the passage of time. Retrospectively, the days are gone when there was track maintenance within the locality and individual stations were managed adequately. In fairness though one cannot put responsibility squarely at the Tenby council's door - or indeed it does not even appear to be a county council issue - clearly not a priority. In real terms the frame work and continuation of the South Western Wales line is still economically viable alongside bus and coach services, the slow decline and degeneration, lack lustre of the services provided, is unfortunately so 'today.' The reluctance to invest, modify or even bring back slightly the ugliness of this problem has to some extent empathy. Why improve what 'Mr. Handy Vandal' will just abuse and dismantle again, going into toilets and waiting rooms to leave their mark? Pretty railway stations reflect town or village management of a caring kind, giving the impression of a solid community, this factor is lacking countrywide there are no exceptions tourist based or not. Who can cut the red tape, one aim, one objective care for the environment, take the railway out from the nonsense and give it back to one department - the one that sees common sense.
