Rev. Nanette Lewis Head led worship on Sunday. The theme for this first Sunday in lent was 'The Temptations of Jesus'. The singing group led worship with 'Draw near to God and he will draw near to you'. Rachel Bonser read the words of welcome and Nanette thanked her. The words 'May our lives radiate your love' were part of the opening prayer, which was followed by the congregational reading of Psalm 8, 'O Lord our governor how glorious is your name in all the earth'. In her talk to the young people, Nanette asked about the temptations which might face them and how simple they seem compared to those which faced Jesus in the desert. The very human temptations of being hungry, tired, lonely and angry. Jesus in these temptations made his choice to follow God's way. We have to make our own choices. Mr. Lew Day read from Deuteronomy 26, 1-11, 'Harvest Offerings' and the narrative of the day's theme from Luke 4, 1-13. Nanette led prayers based upon these passages and in her sermon continued to explore 'The temptations of Jesus'. Jesus faced life choices just as we do. Many are insignificant, many of major importance. Jesus made his stand and trusted in God. Whom do we trust ? In our wilderness times it is important to recognise the difference between the voice of the world and that of God. Jesus calls us each one and helps us where we are. Nanette quoted from the simple but meaningful hymn, 'Just as I am'. Thank you, Nanette, and all who took part in worship. Following prayers of intercession, Nanette said how good it was to have Mrs. Sheila John playing the organ again. Nanette also wished Mrs. Ann Maggs and her team every blessing in the coming week as they prepared for the Daffodil Festival. At the time of going to press, only three days are left of the festival. Worship on Sunday will include a family service at 10.30 am, followed by a faith lunch and a Gymafu Ganu at 8 pm. All are welcome.
