Following the opening hymn, 'Spirit of the Living God', sung by the choir, Rachael welcomed everyone to the service on Sunday morning. The service was conducted by Mrs. Audrey Scullard, a lay preacher and member of St. Johns. The church secretary, Tony Scullard, welcomed her and thanked her on behalf of the congregation. Everyone then joined in the reading of Psalm 118, which includes the words 'This is the day that the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it'. Audrey's address to the children was in the form of a question: 'Who likes going for walks?' She told the junior church the story of 'Johnny head-in-air', who never looked where he was going as he was too busy gazing at the sky, resulting in many bruises. Mrs. Marion Griffiths then read from Luke Ch.24. v13-35 and the First Letter from Peter Ch.1. v17-23. Audrey told the congregation of the Three Keys to Peace: Fret not, Faint not and Fear not. She spoke of the disciples on the road to Emmaus and their feelings after the happenings of the last three days spent in Jerusalem and the sudden realisation that the stranger who had accompanied them and talked to them was the Lord. She finished with the words 'God walks beside us all'. The choir ended the service with the singing of 'May the Lord Bless You'. Thank you Audrey for leading worship. Thanks also to Sheila Noot for accompanying on the organ. This Sunday, worship at 10.30 am will be conducted by the Rev. Nanette Lewis Head. All are welcome to join in this celebration.
