Among matters discussed at the September meeting of St. Florence Community Council were the following:

Matters Arising

Walkway, Parsonage/Parklands: Following a site meeting, it was agreed that Smart Gardens would trim back the bushes to six inches behind the edge of the path and also cut down the elderflower bush and other shrubs that were causing light deprivation to the ground floor flats. A short discussion took place with regards to the laurel bush and as to whether this should be removed completely. It was decided to leave this in situ for the time being.

Restoration of War Memorial: It was suggested that Ruth Brace may be able to help find the information required.

Planning Applications

Conversion of garage to living accommodation and car parking, 18 Parklands (granted); erection of orangery, Castle Park, The Ridgeway (no objection).

Village and Village Hall Matters

Land behind flats at Parsonage: Following a short discussion, it was proposed that the community council were not in a position to make the decision to sell land that had been gifted to the village as it was owned by the village as a whole and not solely by the community council. Proposed D. Evans. Seconded S. Hughes. All in favour.

County Councillor's Report

County Clr. Kidney confirmed that the areas previously discussed in Parklands had been adopted by the county council and would now be included in their grass cutting/maintenance programme. The area maintenance supervisor would meet with Clrs. Kidney and D. Evans and visit Parklands to view the areas concerned. Clr. Eardley asked if the AMS would also look at the area near to the public toilets to see if they would include this area in the weed maintenance programme.

Items submitted

by Councillors

Clr. J. Evans reported that he had spoken with the owner of the land between Parklands and The Parsonage and building would commence shortly on the area and would be cleared imminently.

Clr. Eardley asked that the owners of the lucky dip tub - thought to be St. Florence School - clear away the small polystyrene balls in the upstairs room. He also proposed that the monthly bank reconciliations and minutes be put in the noticeboard after they had been verified by the community council's auditor.

The clerk would contact the owner of the trailer parked on the village hall car park and ask that he remove same on a Tuesday as the local football, karate and camera club meet and there was a lack of parking.

The clerk would also contact the booking clerk and ask to what frequency the football club pay to use the village hall and amenities.
