Seniors' section

The honours in the Tuesday Chicken are being pretty evenly spread around this year. This week there were good performaces from Ray Williams, Dave Evans and Peter Bowling. Frank O'Sullivan, who has just returned to the Seniors, and Jack Tindall are also worth a mention for the good efforts. On Thursday, we had an excellent day's golf against Newport at home. We won 6.5 to 3.5. Congratulations to Newport for the competitive but friendly spirit in which the match was played. It was all helped by the fact that the weather turned out to be much better than expected. The after-dinner speeches were good and Clive Pitten told a joke that we had all heard before. At that stage he didn't know that his handicap had been dropped after his fine Tuesday performance. Tuesday's match had been a combined putting competition and Chicken Trot. We each had to decide where our priorities lay. Mike Harries managed to combine both well with just 27 puts in his round and 35 points in the Chicken Trot. The Chicken Trot was won by Clive, but Brian Phillips and Ken Chichester also saw their handicaps dropped by a shot. Not before time, as they have both played consistently well over the weeks. For the diary, we have an away day to the Gower on April 22 and a match at 11.30 on April 24 at Priskilly. Priskilly always make excellent hosts and we look forward to that. On Tuesday, April 29, we play for the Manorbier Trophy. Ladies' SECTION

The weather was kind to us for our Coronation Foursomes competition. With warm sunshine and a light breeze, it was good to play on a course in excellent condition, with one less layer of clothing.  In fact, one lady was seen to have bare arms! Spring must have arrived following the recent snows. Sharon Kaye and Novello Davies were first with 37 points. Several pairings shared the same points for second place, but Sara Davies and Janett Talett, after struggling with their form on the first nine, beat their rivals with a much-improved second half.  Just a reminder, we will be having our coffee morning today (Friday), 10.30 am, at the house of Carole Chichester.  Coffee and biscuits, with the opportunity to buy some lovely homemade cakes produced by our ladies.
