During half term, over 50 members of the South Pembrokeshire Hunt Pony Club took part in Pony Club Camp. This was the branch's largest ever camp and was held at Cresselly Home Farm by kind permission of Mr. Andrew Morgan. The branch would also like to thank Cresselly Cricket Club who allowed them to use their excellent facilities for lunches and evening activities. The children were organised into eight rides and took part in a variety of activities during the week, including dressage, show jumping, working hunters, cross country, mounted games and stable management. During the week, many of the riders successfully passed their D, D+ and C tests and all had an excellent week. The youngest groups enjoyed a fun ride to Cresswell Quay at the end of the week. The trip is always popular with the children, and they would all like to say a big thank you to Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Cole for the drinks and crisps which made the ride even more fun! At the end of the week there was a competition which involved all the children. In the morning it was the turn of the junior and mini children to take part in a dressage test, show jumping competition and a working hunter show. The youngest children were each looked after by a senior rider, who either led them or walked the courses with them, and then helped them with their tests. Some of the older children also became competition judges and stewards, all taking their roles very seriously! In the afternoon it was the seniors' turn to compete in dressage, show jumping and a working hunter show, while the junior riders enjoyed taking on the judging and stewarding as much as the seniors had! Once again the competition was excellent, with everyone keen to win. In the evenings the children enjoyed a number of social events, including a barbecue and endurance riding evening. Possibly the most popular, however, was a trip to the Dinosaur Park. All the children had a wonderful time on the rides and playing in the park and would like to thank Mr. and Mrs. Simon Meyrick for kindly arranging the evening. The children were also organised into teams for camp and awarded points throughout the week for their activities, stable management and attitude. Every morning they were all keen to check their points on the notice board and every team wanted to win. Five riders from the branch unfortunately had to miss the first two days of camp as they were selected to compete for the Area in the Pony Club Tetrathlon in Stockland Lovell, near Taunton. Jack Goldsworthy Spuffard, Harriet Morgan, Alice Simon, Emily Pellington and Tiffany Roach all did extremely well at the event (full results will follow in next week's report). Camp finished with a prize-giving where the children were awarded rosettes, trophies for the most improved rider in each ride and certificates for their achievements at camp. By the end of the week, all the children and parents were exhausted. However, camp was a great success, with many of the children wanting to stay for another week!
