Four members of Soroptimist International Tenby and District braved the gales last Thursday to go shopping for the Christmas hampers they provide each year for the women, and children, staying at the Women's Refuge, and for elderly and single families in the community named by the health visitors from Saundersfoot and Tenby Medical Centres. Apart from the money given by the club members, £25 for goodies for the children from the local RAOB Lodge, and the donation of food items collected by the Congregational Chapel of Saundersfoot, the generosity of local business resulted in over 750 items of food, toiletries, toys and chocolates etc. being amassed. Joined later by more members at the home of club secretary, Judy Brew, a grand total of 34 hampers were packed. Twenty of them packed with Christmas cheer were collected by the health visitors, two large hampers were filled for the children, who would be joined at a party by other youngsters who have spent time previously at the refuge, a large hamper of toiletries was done for the ladies, plus hampers of the food items donated by the church. The hampers, which were started many years ago in a small way, have now become a mammoth task, but one considered of great importance to the Tenby members. Their hope is that in some way they help those less fortunate than them, have a brighter Christmas. The club extends their sincere thanks to: Mr. Peter Morgan and the members of Saundersfoot Congregational Chapel, RAOB Sunbeam Lodge, Mr. Chris Beasley, of the Mushroom Farm, Focus DIY Store, ASDA, Tesco and the Co-operative stores, In Store, The Famous £ Shop in Saundersfoot and finally, to Judy and her husband Michael for allowing their kitchen to be invaded.
