Songs and speeches officially opened Pentre’r Garreg Las at the National Eisteddfod in Pembrokeshire.

This formal opening ceremony celebrated the people, projects and partnerships that made Pentre’r Garreg Las possible.

Local and national dignitaries were delighted by performances by harpist Claire Jones, former royal harpist, who was accompanied by Steven Richard-Downes, Education Director for a special version of ‘Can Yr Arad Goch’.

Pembrokeshire County Council Chief Executive Will Bramble, Chairman Cllr Delme Harries, Cllr John Davies, and Cllr Alistair Cameron Cabinet Member for Welsh language welcomed everyone to the Pentre and thanked partners for their contributions in bringing the Pentre to life.

Cllr Harries said: “We are honoured to host the Eisteddfod here in Pembrokeshire, and we hope its legacy will continue long after the Maes has closed, leaving a lasting impact on our communities and on the future of the Welsh language throughout the county.”

Pentre'r Garreg Las, Pembrokeshire County Council and partners’ area on the Eisteddfod Maes, is showcasing and celebrating the county, with a full schedule of talks, performances and demonstrations throughout the week.

The programme will celebrate local culture, communities, tourism offer, local food and drink, partnership working, and Welsh language initiatives.
