Sir, Re. Amroth slipway, I feel it is only fair that I have the opportunity to reply to Mr. Brinsden's letter which was printed in your paper of July 29. Firstly, the questionnaires were clear and easy to understand and had to be circled YES or NO, then signed. The response was good, with 63 per cent coming back in favour of a strictly managed association. The return of NOs was 27 per cent and came with some very valid points which have to be addressed; most of them have already been done so. Secondly, I furnished Mr. Brinsden with all the information he asked for and both my telephone numbers if he felt he needed to discuss any of the points. He says he has no objection to small fishing boats and dinghies using the beach, but does he realise that the slipway is at present being used to launch powerboats with engines in excess of 130hp. To me this does not seem fair, when it was supposedly only going to be 25hp and under, with 17-foot in length. We are backed by the RYA (Royal Yachting Association) and PWP ( Personal Watercraft Partnership) and all we are asking is to be given a chance to run a strictly managed organisation from Amroth slipway. With proper training and insurance and with dialogue from both sides, I am sure we can work together in making this a safe and happy place for everyone concerned.
Tom Baker, Chairman, Amroth PWC and Small Boats Association.
