As reported last week, members of the Tenby in Bloom committee returned from the RHS Britain in Bloom presentation ceremony in Birmingham last week with a Silver Gilt award.

Tenby, who recently picked up the best 'small country town' crown for the 26th time in the Wales in Bloom event, were pipped by North Berwick in Scotland, in their 'Coastal (12k and below)' category at the Britain in Bloom awards.

The ceremony was attended by Tenby in Bloom chairman, Clr. Mrs. Sue Lane, and vice-chairman, Clr. Mrs. Tish Rossiter, along with representatives from Pembrokeshire County Council.

"This award is for the whole of the town and, although we didn't take home the top prize, it's still a wonderful achievement and shows how much progress we have made over the past few years," said Clr. Mrs. Lane, thanking all the businesses, schools and town's people who worked hard towards the competition, along with the county council's gardening team.

"Hopefully, we may get the chance to give it another shot next year," she added.

Indeed, there was further good news for the town following the award, when the town clerk revealed to councillors at their meeting on Tuesday night, that Wales in Bloom's chairman, Mr. John Woods, had been in touch with the news that they would put the town forward again for next year's Britain in Bloom competition.

"On behalf of the council, I would like to pay tribute to the efforts of the maintenance staff of the county council and the Tenby In Bloom committee," said Mayor, Clr. Mrs. Julie Evans.

"This has been a successful partnership between the town council, county council and Tenby in Bloom, and I am sure you will agree, Tenby thoroughly deserved to be nominated in the finals," she added.
