One of the leading figures in clay target shooting, Bryan Phillips, of Llanglydwen, has agreed to sponsor the new West Wales Clay Target Shooting League which will compete for the first time next weekend.
The five teams who presently make up the league are Whitland Gun Club, the Iron Duke (Clynderwen), Corner Piece (Spittal), the Picton Inn (Clarbeston Road) and Jeffreyston Gun Club.
Teams comprise a minimum of six members, male or female, and anyone interested in making up a team to join the league, or to become members of an existing team, should contact Bryan on 01994 419270.
A former breeder and exhibitor of pedigree Holstein cattle, who has now turned to beef and sheep, Bryan took up shooting in 1985 and has been a member of the Welsh team for the past four years.
He is the current holder, for the second year, of the Welsh National Championship in the open skeet discipline and his partner, Angie Goodman, is also the current Welsh Ladies Champion.
Earlier this year, Bryan set up a shooting supply business to serve the whole of West Wales and he also offers courses of tuition for those keen to take up the sport.
The league will run until Easter and fixtures for next Sunday, December 8, are: Whitland v Iron Duke and Corner Piece v Picton Inn. Jeffreyston Club have a free day.
