Sir, This particular shed is just that - a shed. It was built where it is just to house, launch and retrieve a lifeboat and its crews. The shed has no history, nor does it have a claim to glory in Tenby's history. The boats, the crews and the RNLI have, and that history in written and photographic form can be well assembled and displayed at the Museum and at the new lifeboat house. To span the story of the development of lifeboats at Tenby, you will have the original boathouse still in the harbour since 1852. As the boats were refined and specialised, the lifeboat house was built on Castle Beach; still there as a museum piece. Where you used to have the Victoria Pier - 1899 vintage - you now have the latest development of boats, crews and shed. The RNLI up-to-date. So please let me know why you all want the red- roofed shed. The only thing that brings the cries for preservation is the fact that you've got used to it and, short-term, will miss it. The Victoria Pier you cheerfully and wantonly demolished and that was useful, but cannot live without the shed. Over to you!
Ivor Jenkins,
23 Dombey Road, Poynton, Cheshire.
