There's nothing like a musical interlude to soothe a troubled soul and it's all the more satisfying when accompanied by the comedy capers of pluck whose unique combination of musical dexterity, passion and irreverence ends with a violin being set on fire at Milford Haven's new Torch Theatre today (Friday)! A comedy string trio that is astounding audiences all over the world, Pluck's theatre resume is a remarkable story which has blossomed over just five years. After an inaugural performance at the world famous Ronnie Scott's Jazz Bar in London, they took the 2003 Edinburgh Fringe by storm, with their show, Musical Arson, winning the prestigious Tap Water Award for Cabaret. Directors John Fealey and Toby Sedgwick then came on board to develop the show, since which time they have won four international awards, performed at four Edinburgh Fringe Festivals, been the 'undeniable hit' of the Adelaide Fringe 2004, stunned an audience of 8,000 in a football stadium, played the Glastonbury Festival in white tie, tails, and Wellington boots, tangoed with patients in hospitals, entertained children in schools, and interviewed the president of Slovenia in a boxing ring! Musical Arson is just dripping with creativity and originality - a wacky tour of classical music from Bach to the Beatles this engaging trio perform with extraordinary freshness, vitality and a great sense of comic timing. Whether a raised eyebrow here, a manic stare there, or racing from one end of the stage to another without missing a note, they manage to extract laughs and enthusiastic bursts of applause with everything from Brahms, Ravel and Vivaldi to Vaughan Williams. Pluck was formed by violinist Adrian Garratt, who has worked with Yehudi Menuhin, Vladimir Ashkenazy and Rainer Hersch. Together with violist Jon Regan, who leads a double life as both player and conductor with the Dorking Philharmonia, and cellist Sian Kadifachi, who studied both 'cello and jazz singing at the Guildhall in London, all three performers share an unusual desire to do more than just play the instruments that they've spent so long learning and perfecting and together. Without doubt, Pluck's Musical Arson has a universal appeal which will refresh and inspire any jaded palate!
