Sir,

May I put the record straight following your article regarding a Tree Preservation Order (TPO) made for South Parade, Tenby (Council criticism for South Parade tree order', Observer, July 21).

The TPO, in fact, refers to four maple trees adjacent to St. Johns Church on South Parade and not to the avenue of horse chestnuts, as assumed in the article. The avenue of chestnuts is actually within the Tenby Conservation Area and so is already protected within the legislation relating to Conservation Areas.

For some time the National Park Authority (NPA) has been keen to have these horse chestnut trees pruned and has advised the county council of a suitable pruning regime.

The NPA is also aware that some maintenance of the cobbles around the trees is required in order to remove any trip hazard.
