On Monday, December 26, at Tenby United rugby field, Heywood Lane, the now famous annual Boxing Day rugby match, Tenby 1st XV v Tenby Barbarians, will take place again.

After last year's very disappointing match postponement due to the snow/frost, Tenby United 1st XV will again entertain the Coastal Cottages sponsored Tenby Barbarians in what is sure to be another festival of entertaining, champagne rugby that all the family will enjoy, with the added bonus that it is all in a good cause to raise money for the Gareth Scotcher Trust Fund.

Tenby United 1st XV are firm favourites this year, but the Tenby Barbarians have been pulling out all the stops to make sure that they have recruited well for the big match and might just pull off the biggest surprise since Tonga beat France in the recent World Cup.

The Barbarians didn't have as big a squad as they had had in previous years, but they still made a valiant effort, taking the lead with only 10 minutes to go, but it was Tenby who finished the stronger, eventually winning the match to pick-up the much sought-after Boxing Day trophy.

In addition, Matt Evans, of Coastal Cottages and main sponsor to Tenby United Rugby Club and the Tenby Barbarians, stated that he and Niffy would like this year's Boxing Day match to be the biggest and best to date and so he has arranged an impressive alfresco bar, provided by Trefloyne Golf Club, and a pig roast, provided by Muddy Lane Pigs.

They also have a new, slightly later kick-off time, switching from 1.30 to 2 pm, to give players and spectators more time to get from the Boxing Day Swim to the rugby ground. The rugby ground and bar will be open from 12.30 pm.
