On Sunday, Saundersfoot Sea Angling Club held a match on Saundersfoot Beach, sponsored by Dai and Mandy, of The Chemist Inn.

This club is going from strength to strength - 27 anglers competed, including three juniors and one lady.

Nineteen anglers weighed in flounder, with results being: 1. Leigh Rogers with a fine flounder of 1.008kg (£100, the Chemist Cup and 10 points); 2. Andrew (Joolz) Jones with a bag of 3.426kg (£50 and eight points); 3. Jonny Yu with a bag of 2.354kg (£25 and six points); 4. Jon Brace with a bag of 1.806kg (four points); 5. George Barritt with a bag of 1.674kg.

The Golden Peg was number 31, John Williams, who did not compete. The rollover continues.

We also held our annual doubles match, with partners drawn after the event to avoid any possible collusion!

Our efforts in hosting/taking part in a sponsored 12-hour overnight match earlier in the year were rewarded by being able to present a cheque for £2,000 to Mike Ashbridge and Marge Clarke, representing Wales Air Ambulance.

A special thanks from us all to Tony Knowles, who came up with the initial idea and collected the most in sponsorship. Further thanks are due to Dai and Mandy and their staff for their hospitality - the food was both varied and delicious!

Forthcoming matches are as follows:

Sunday, December 12: two-rod rover, excluding rock marks, sponsored by Janz Restaurant. Sign on at Kilgetty TIC 6.45 - 7 am, fishing 8 am - 1 pm, weigh-in at BB's, with scales closing at 2.15 pm. As this is an early start, pre-booking on Saturday is fine - contact Tony Ormond.

Sunday, December 19 - Annual Fur and Feather. Sign on at the harbour car park by 9.30 am, fishing 10 am to 3 pm, weigh-in at the Sports Club, with scales closing at 3.45 pm. This match will be followed by the raffle in the Sports Club.

The annual dinner and presentation evening will be on Saturday, January 22, at the Dragon Palace, Pentlepoir - £15 per head, cash up front please, with monies to be handed to Merv Brace (07970 204925) or Tony Knowles (07854 542464).

In view of the dearth of fish being caught off the beach recently, coinciding with the increase in netting from boats, we have decided that all matches until further notice are two-rod matches, any method allowed (except for Open matches). All rovers must be fished in pairs or more, and be especially careful on rock marks. Those of you on Facebook or similar sites, it is common knowledge that once a productive mark is mentioned, it will get wiped out within hours.

2010 singles finalists: Tony Knowles v Andrew Jones.

Club meetings are held at the Sports Club on the first Wednesday of every month at 8 pm. Next meeting is on December 7. All welcome.
