A LOCAL charity has praised the community spirit and welcoming atmosphere at Manorbier’s Community Christmas Lunch, serving over 100 residents.

The Manorbier and District Community Christmas Lunch, hosted by the Giraldus Centre, took place in December 2025.

One hundred local residents piled into the community centre’s festooned hall, where they were treated to a welcome drink of Buck’s Fizz, followed by turkey and all the trimmings, Christmas pudding with brandy cream, finishing off with tea/coffee, mince pies and a glass of brandy or port.

In addition, 16 meals were delivered by volunteer drivers to members of the local community who were unable to attend in person.

This year, the entertainment was provided by Manorbier’s ever popular local choir, Cockles and Mussels, who had added some Christmas songs and carols to their repertoire especially for the occasion.

Everyone attending was given a free raffle ticket, and at the end of the day, most people went home with a prize, thanks to the many items donated by the Giraldus Centre’s supporters.

The event was made possible by the generosity of the local businesses and organisations that sponsored it and volunteered on the day, namely Andrew Rees Butchers, Castlemead Hotel, Manorbier Castle Inn, Celtic Wines, Coors, Jameston Community Association, Lydstep Garden Centre, Manorbier Castle, Manorbier Community Council, Phil Kidney and Upton Farm.

Rob Hall, Chair of the South Ridgeway Community Association charity, which built and runs the Giraldus Centre, said during the event: “What a fantastic atmosphere! It really is heartwarming to see our community come together to celebrate the festive season.

He added: “I’d like to thank all the sponsors, and also our Centre Supervisor Deb Roberts for organising yet another successful event for the community, and of course our team of incredible volunteers, who have worked so hard preparing the hall, cooking, serving, and giving up their time, always with a smile, making this such a fantastic day for everyone.”
