OPTIMIST WINS -

A FIRST AT SSC

The re-scheduled Junior Regatta and Lady Helm races were not able to take place on Friday, but the BBQ went ahead anyway.

On Saturday, conditions were more suitable, so the Junior Helm was held. It was only possible to fit in two of the planned three races, thus doing away with the discard.

After winning both races, Adam Johns in his Optimist was the overall winner, with brother Chris in his Topper taking second and Kathryn Williams in her Optimist coming third.

Congratulations to all those who took part, we look forward to seeing you competing in the Sunday racing now.

Many thanks to Graham who ran another BBQ for everyone after the racing and to Mick for manning the bar.

The Lady Helm is now re-scheduled for 'the next sunny Saturday', so watch this space!

SAIL TRAINING

Tomorrow (Saturday), sail training is from 0900 - 1200 hrs, with Saturday Club at 1100 - 1300 hrs.

SUNDAY RACING

Conditions were good at the start of the racing with nine dinghies out on the water. The course was set at MAPH x 3 and racing got underway with no hitches. Unfortunately, the wind dropped during the race so the course was shortened, finishing the Optimists after one lap, while the rest of the fleet completed two laps.

After the handicaps were applied, John and Paul in their Fireball took first place, Malcolm in the Comet Duo took second, Tonia and Julia in their graduate took third, with Adam in his Optimist taking fourth place.

This Sunday, there will be two races starting at 10.30 am when we hope to have some of our working youngsters back in the fleet.

MONDAY WHIST

It was again a pleasant evening for sitting in the clubhouse admiring the view whilst playing whist.

The winners were: first lady - P. Quinsee; second lady - G. Irvine; first gent - W. Thomas; second gent - J. Davies; lowest score -W. Whitaker.

There were four players claiming longest sitter, so the cards were cut and a King took the prize to E. Jones.

Raffle prizes went to E. Jones and D. Nicholas.

Anyone wishing to join in this group will be most welcome. Doors open 7 pm, game starts 7.30 prompt.

LARK PRAISE

The Lark Class association spoke most favourably of our club regarding the recent championships. Here are two extracts from their web page report:

The week August 18-24 saw Saundersfoot Sailing Club host the Red Square Lark National Championships. The fleet was met with a fantastically warm welcome by all of the club members and PRO for the week, Commodore John Griffiths.

Saundersfoot hosted a fantastic National Championships, with excellent racing in very trying conditions and socials that make other class's socials 'seem like a tea party'! It was a huge week and one which will not be forgotten by those who took part.

Word had got around and we have already received requests from the other class associations who would like us to host their future championships.

Many thanks again to all those who gave up their time to help throughout the week at this event, we will be looking for even more helpers for next season, so if you would like to join in the fun please let us know.
