Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service is bringing festive cheer and essential safety advice this December with the launch of its ‘12 Days of Christmas Safety Messages’ campaign - delivered to you by the #ServiceSquirrel

As Christmas approaches, colder nights and rising energy costs mean many households are turning to portable heaters, candles, and decorative lights. While these bring warmth and sparkle, they also increase the risk of fires and accidents.

MAWWFRS wants to help families enjoy a safe and worry-free Christmas.

This month #ServiceSquirrel will share 12 essential safety tips on Facebook and Instagram, covering everything from:

  • Home Fire Safety
  • Electrical Fire Safety
  • Cooking Safety
  • Candle Safety
  • Drink Driving Awareness

Peter Greenslade, Corporate Head of Community Risk Management said:We know that families across Mid and West Wales will be preparing for a busy and joyful Christmas but it’s all too easy to forget the basics of home safety when relaxing with friends and family. By using #ServiceSquirrel as our messenger, we hope to keep safety front of mind in a fun and light-hearted way.”

“Winter also brings extra hazards, including freezing temperatures and icy roads. MAWWFRS urges everyone to check smoke alarms, service heating appliances, and ensure vehicles are roadworthy. Free Safe and Well visits are available to provide advice and fit smoke alarms at no cost.”

Steven Davies, Head of Community Safety added: “Small actions make a big difference – from chimney Safety advice to checking alarms. Our team is here to help, and our free home safety checks are a great way to prepare for winter.”
