Saundersfoot Runners are celebrating their fifth birthday, marking half a decade of running, friendship and community spirit.
The group was born in November 2020, at the end of the national Covid lockdown, when a small handful of runners came together looking for connection, motivation and a way to rebuild healthy routines.
Today, Saundersfoot Runners has grown into a thriving community group open to runners of all paces, ages and abilities.
The group meets several times a week, welcoming everyone from complete beginners to long-standing runners. The ethos remains simple: run together, support each other and enjoy it.
Over the past five years, the group has supported numerous runners through Couch to 5K programmes, helping many local residents take their first confident steps into running. They also enjoy a vibrant social calendar, including a monthly First Friday Social, which has become a much-loved part of group life.
Saundersfoot Runners have taken on many memorable challenges together. They’ve run across three different countries (Wales in a Day and multi-day runs across Scotland and England); tackled night runs, fun runs, charity runs and runs from 3k to ultra-marathons and everything in between.
“For us, it’s not about pace or distance but about being outdoors, enjoying the scenery and a post run coffee and cake” said Sarah Whiddett, one of the Runners’ admin team.
This weekend’s anniversary celebrations were made even more special with the return of two of the group’s founders, Dai and Denise Roberts, who were instrumental in establishing Saundersfoot Runners before relocating away from the area. Their visit was warmly welcomed and served as a reminder of how far the group has come.
Saundersfoot Runners remains free to join and open to runners of all paces and to anyone who wants to start running with support.
Anyone interested can simply turn up and run—no membership, no fees, just friendly faces and a supportive community.
Full details of weekly sessions and meet-ups can be found on the Saundersfoot Runners Facebook Group feed.
