The sun shone on Saundersfoot on Sunday, drawing large crowds onto the streets to witness the village's ever-popular carnival.
The large crowds also flocked to the sports field to watch the judging of the entries and enjoy an afternoon of fun and entertainment organised by Saundersfoot Sports and Social Club.
As is tradition, first task of the day was the crowning of the Carnival Queen, Bethan Thomas, Fairy Queen Bryony Cunningham, Carnival King Daniel Merrix and Carnival Prince John Carroll, by chairman of Saundersfoot Community Council, Clr. Aubrey Lawrence.
The flower-bedecked float bearing Bethan, Bryony, Daniel and John and their attendants Joanne Ayris, Catrin Roberts, Angharad Thomas and Jody Brace, then joined the colourful cavalcade of floats and fancy dress walking entries as it wound its way around the village led by the Milford Haven Town Band and the Cwmgors Valley Troopers.
The procession included a host of imaginative entries, ranging from the topical like the gaoling of Lord Archer and holiday weather through to television, film and fairytale favourites, and delighted the large crowds thronging every vantage point around the village, before returning to the sports field and the presentation of prizes by Clr. Lawrence.
Winner of the best float was the topical entry from the Rotary Club of Saundersfoot which depicted Lord Jeffrey Archer in his prison cell.
Results in the fancy dress walking classes were:
Under seven (Fred Gunter Memorial Trophy) - Fresh and Frozen (Joshua Malkin).
Seven to 11 (Bert Rogers Memorial Trophy) - Invisible Man and Dog (Simon Stanford).
11 and over - Spirit of the Night (Daniel Malkin).
Best group - Bill, Ben and Little Weed (Sammy-Jo McKay, Fletcher Dyer and Connor Lewis).
With numerous charity stalls, rides and fairground attractions on the carnival field, there was plenty to amuse young and old alike, particularly the musicianship of the Milford Haven Town Band, the precision marching of the Cwmgors Valley Troopers and the fancy footwork of over 50 of the Celtic Claddagh Irish Dancers.
The carnival was followed by children and adult races organised by the Rotary Club of Saundersfoot and the ever-popular tug-of-war competition.
The fun continued long into the evening with a children's disco and live music from popular local duo AD93.
Carnival committee chairman, Mike Williams, hailed the day as "a great success."
"Last year we took over the organisation of the carnival at short notice," he said. "We had much more time to organise things this year. We were delighted with the response from the villagers and visitors and it all went very well.
"The weather was with us and everyone enjoyed themselves, which was what it was all about."
Mr. Williams also paid tribute to the hard work of fellow committee members Richard Preece, Mandy Matthews, Andrea Caine and Tracy Wood.
"We were also lucky to secure a lot of sponsorship this year and really big thanks go to Pearl Assurance, The Famous £1 Shop, The Sands Nightclub, Redwing Travel and A. J. Collins Developers for their generous support."
All proceeds of the carnival go to youth sporting activities in Saundersfoot.
